Description

Education of spouses of seminary students in homemaking, church-related subjects and general culture.

The Mulungwishi Theological Seminary was founded in 1951. It provides the highest level of ministerial training for the United Methodist Church in the southern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Seminary serves the South Congo and North Katanga Episcopal Areas. All the United Methodist Bishops of the Congo, most of the District Superintendents of the two mentioned Episcopal areas and leading pastors as well as Congolese regular missionaries serving with the General Board of Global Ministries are graduates of the Seminary.

For over the past 25 years the Seminary has been operating at university level recognized by the National Ministry of Higher Education. Some 16 years ago, a two year quasi Master's Degree was added to continue the education of pastors sent by the Annual Conferences. Since 1976, women have been part of the student body.

The Women's School provides the training for the wives of the student pastors as well as women from the surrounding area. The idea is to put the couple into the ministry. The women are real catalysts in their community when in the pastorate with their husbands. They have started teaching other women what they learned while at the school.

The Advance Special would provide the continuity with the supporting churches that have been a part to this project through the years.
